How to Use a Culture Video to Attract Top Talent

November 9th, 2015

Your best employees don’t just have top-notch skills and a keen understanding of the business – they also fit well into your company’s culture. To find tomorrow’s stars, you’ll need to attract candidates who have both the skills and the cultural fit that your current A-players possess.

In today’s media-saturated world, catching the eye of promising candidates takes more than merely posting a job ad. By using video, you can tell a captivating story that builds your employer brand and recruits more effectively than a job posting alone.

Here’s how to create a standout video in order to attract top talent:

  1. Seek out employee testimonials. What is it like to work for your company? Your employees know. Ask your staff what they love best about working for your organization; then ask them to share these answers in a recruiting video. Like-minded, passionate candidates will see their potential co-workers sharing firsthand the best parts of working for your company – and will say to themselves, “How do I join this team?”
  2. Talk about the culture as a whole. What does your employees’ “best work” look like? How does the company work to actively support employees in producing this work? Add a segment to the video that shows this culture in action. You might display it through employee testimonials, or ask a manager or executive to weigh in.
  3. Know your audience. One of the keys to persuasion is knowing your audience. What are they looking for? What are their biggest questions? What do they need at this point in their career? Consider creating multiple videos to target various audiences, including new graduates, passive candidates looking for a better cultural fit, or the top players in your field.
  4. Show what it’s like to work for the company. Good planning and production contribute much to the final product, but they can also make a video seem overly scripted. Reduce this risk by including images or footage of an actual working day at the company. What can candidates expect when they walk in the doors each day? What do workspaces look like? How often do team members chat with one another about work, and where do they do it?
